We are delighted to announce that over 100 children and young people have already joined the 30-a-Week Challenge to eat more plants!
There's still time to sign up and take part in this exciting initiative that encourages healthier eating habits and a greater focus on plant-based foods.
Why Are Plants Important for Us?
Eating a variety of plants is essential for our health and well-being. Plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, are packed with vital nutrients that support many aspects of our physical and mental health:
Rich in nutrients: Plants provide vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fibre, all of which are crucial for maintaining a healthy body. Fibre helps with digestion, while antioxidants help protect the body from damage and inflammation.
Supports the immune system: The vitamins and minerals found in plant foods, like vitamin C, vitamin A, and zinc, are known to strengthen the immune system, helping the body fight off illnesses.
Promotes heart health: Diets rich in plant-based foods are linked to lower cholesterol levels and a reduced risk of heart disease. Plants are naturally low in unhealthy fats and high in fiber, which helps maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Boosts energy and mood: Eating a colorful variety of plants can improve your energy levels and mood due to the abundance of nutrients that nourish your body and brain.
By encouraging children and young people to eat more plants, we're helping them build strong foundations for a healthy future.
