The Canalside was buzzing with excitement as families came together to explore the Eat Well Guide and learn how small changes in our diets can have a big impact on our health!
Why Does Variety Matter?
A diverse diet packed with 30 different plant foods each week can boost gut health, improve digestion, and enhance overall well-being. From fruits and vegetables to pulses, nuts, seeds, and grains—each plant food provides essential nutrients that help our bodies thrive!
During the half-term, families were encouraged to include a variety of foods from three key plant-based groups:
Fruits & Vegetables
Plant-Based Proteins (beans, lentils, pulses)
Starchy Foods (rice, potatoes, grains)
But that’s not all! Protein-rich foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy are vital for building strong muscles, supporting energy levels, and aiding in repair and recovery. Getting 7 different protein sources in your diet ensures a well-balanced approach to nutrition.
Families Rising to the Challenge!
It was fantastic to see so many families embracing the 30 Plants & 7 Proteins Challenge! Our healthy eating session at The Canalside gave everyone a taste - literally - of how easy and delicious healthy eating can be!
We were also excited to welcome families signing up for our 6-week Eat Well – Stay Well course, starting next week. This program will provide practical tips, meal ideas, and hands-on activities to make healthy eating an enjoyable part of everyday life.

A huge thank you to Hinkley Point C for funding this project and helping us bring nutrition education to the community!
