One of the participants at the Sunday lunch at The Canalside was Deborah, a Practice Nurse in one of the local GP surgeries. She has attended several of our healthy eating courses this autumn, and she spoke warmly about the experience. Deborah shared how grateful she is that Hinkley Point Community Fund is supporting families in Bridgwater and the surrounding area.
“It is so needed,” she said. “We are usually over booked every week. If more people used lifestyle changes as medicine, there would be so much less pressure on NHS services.”

Deborah has a deep passion for preventive health care, and like many NHS workers, she wishes it received more attention. She told us she hopes to promote our January walking challenge and healthy eating programme among her colleagues and patients at the medical centre.
The Lesson Learned for Lasting Change: Balanced Meals and Better Gut Health
One of the most valuable insights Deborah has taken from our course is a simple but powerful principle: balance.
- Not too much of anything
- Even healthy foods can cause problems if eaten without balance
- And to digest our food well, we must support our gut health
Like many people, Deborah has struggled with a bit of extra weight and has tried countless diets—low-carb, calorie counting, restricted eating, and every new trend that comes along. But none of them worked in the long run.
“When I put into practice the principles from the course, I can feel this is sustainable,” she explained. “It’s not dieting. It’s not starving yourself for a few weeks and then falling off the wagon. It’s building healthy lifestyle choices that last.”
Deborah shared how much better she feels when she prioritises fresh food, movement, and a balanced mindset around eating. She admitted it’s easy to push health to the bottom of the priority list when work gets busy, but she has made a new commitment:
Her New Year’s Resolution:
“No diets. Only sustainable lifestyle changes. I need to prioritise cooking fresh and natural food, and of course, staying active.”
This is exactly the heart of what we teach—and it works.

Thank you to Hinkley Point Community Fund for funding our healthy eating courses and helping families in Bridgwater make sustainable, long-term changes.
