Eat Well to Stay Well: A Summer of Healthy Fun

This summer holiday has been incredible. With sunshine every day, it has been easy to promote a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to funding from SASP through the Happy Healthy Holidays programme, we were able to offer 160 spaces for families on benefit-related free childcare. And thanks to funding from the Hinkley Point Community Fund, we provided another 160 spaces for families not entitled to free school meals.

This meant our courses and activities were open to everyone, and we packed the summer holiday with fun, active, and engaging sessions.

At the core of every session was The Eat Well Plate. Our message was simple:👉 If you want to stay well, eat well.

Every participant took home their own Eat Well Plate so they could continue learning at home and enter our competition to win £50 by eating at least 30 different plants and 6 different animal-based protein-rich foods.

During the sessions, participants were able to experience for themselves how tasty, simple, and quick healthy food can be. They were also able to continue the learning at home by adding more foods to their Eat Well Plate.

Eat Well Plate Competition Winner

The winner of the summer holiday Eat Well competition was Evie. She attended family cooking at Stream Farm together with her family, as well as cooking and High Ropes Climbing at Black Rock Outdoors. It was wonderful to see her continue the Eat Well Plate challenge at home and complete the full plate.

A huge thank-you to our funders for helping families in Bridgwater make lasting changes to their diet and lifestyle.

And remember — we don’t stop here! Our Healthy Eating Courses continue this autumn with a combination of online learning and practical cooking:

6 Weeks to Better Health: Using Food as Medicine
